Our Mid-Autumn Mooncake List Is the Same Every Year

Talking by the counter inside Fosetter, with red lanterns and a lion dance banner in the background.

When the mooncake boxes arrived at Fosetter this Mid-Autumn, Carmen opened them in the middle of the shop. Then she explained who they were for.

Every Mid-Autumn Festival we have a mooncake list, and it's the same every year.

Made by family

My sister-in-law opened two bakeries in Toronto. Every year I've bought the mooncakes that come over from Hong Kong. This year, I asked her to make a batch for us. They're freshly made.

Sometimes, with a family business, each of us in the family works in a different line of business. First, there's no competition between us. And second, we can support each other. That's really good.

Who's on the list

Were all these boxes already ordered by someone? No. Some go to our logistics suppliers. Some go to our landlord. Some go to a lot of other people, our customers. Every year our list is the same. That's for sure.

It's a real, heartfelt kind of gratitude. Like the landlord I talked about before. When others were in trouble, they held out a hand.

During the hardest time, Carmen's landlords told her she didn't need to pay rent until the shop was open and business came back. She tells that story in Pay Rent When Business Comes Back.

Happy Mid-Autumn

From everyone at Fosetter, happy Mid-Autumn Festival. If you're in Chinatown, come by 78 Rue De La Gauchetière Ouest and sit with us for a while. If you're looking for something to bring when you visit family this season, have a look at our Canadian ginseng or bird's nests.
