At Fosetter, our ginseng and dried-goods shop in Montreal's Chinatown, there are two people who got here because someone else brought them in. One works behind our counter. The other is Carmen, the owner.
The number on the door
One of our shop staff has been here since the shop opened. Ask her how she ended up with us and she smiles.
"From the day this shop opened, it's all been fate. Because the number on this shop's door is my birthday."
So how did she come to work here? A friend introduced her, yes. She already knew the person in charge, and at that time she happened to be free. That was all it took.
Our address is 78 Rue De La Gauchetière Ouest. Next time you walk through the door, you'll know the number means something to at least one person inside.
"Without him, I would never have had this chance"
The second person is Carmen herself. When she talks about how she got into American ginseng, she gives the credit to someone else.
"It was a supplier, an uncle who helped us with our purchasing. I want to thank him here. Without him, I would never have had the chance to work with American ginseng."
He did more than sell to her.
"He went with me to check the goods. And sometimes he helped me learn a lot of things about American ginseng."
If you are curious what checking ginseng involves, Carmen explains some of it in how to tell a ginseng root's age, and the roots themselves are in our Canadian ginseng collection.
Two people, two introductions. Come by 78 Rue De La Gauchetière Ouest and say hello to both of them.
