Montreal is the homeland of Canadian American Ginseng.

North American Ginseng, with the scientific name Panax Quinquefolius, is an ancient plant that originated in the primal forests along the North American Atlantic coast. The local Native Americans consumed its stem and leaves and used it as a heat-clearing medicine. In 1716, French missionary Franz LaFedo discovered a wild plant from the Araliaceae family, similar to ginseng, in the jungles along the Atlantic coast of Montreal with the help of Native Americans. This plant was called North American Ginseng because it was produced along the Atlantic coast. By the end of the 19th century, wild  Ginseng was declining due to over-harvesting, leading to the emergence of artificially cultivated Western Ginseng. In 1976, the province of Ontario, Canada began cultivating North American Ginseng. Hence, Montreal is the homeland of Canadian American Ginseng.

 

The four characteristics that Canadian American Ginseng must possess are:

The medicinal value of Canadian American Ginseng in traditional Chinese medicine

American Ginseng (Panax quinquefolius), introduced to China in 1718, is used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) clinics.
